led would need to drop in price by a huge amount for hps to become extinct. It's by far the cheapest way of getting a good first yield. How much for an led capable of giving a new grower 16+ ounces? A 600w hps lighting kit can be had for ~£70.

Use it to become self sufficient and put the savings towards buying led.

Depends on what led, I'll be having 8 plants under 2 x maxibright 660 pros and if I don't get well over 16 per light I'll be very surprised

Yeh that's what I meant mate, technology is getting better and better, means more production which usually means cheaper production, don't think it will be anytime soon though

Just wondering what you class high temps as?

My plants are happy if I keep my canopy temps under 35c

Hopfully mate, this will be my final set up for the future. I have the 300w maxibright led which is ideal for a 800x800

When I tried running full wattage, highest I saw was like 37 and they didn't respond well to it.

Last run I got just over 60oz with 4x HPS running 400w each, and from what I have read the LEDs have a far better spectrum and people who have switched wattage for wattage say their yeilds have increased massively (watt for watt)

That's the thing putting me off LEDs (£1600 worth of light, 1.320kw) and the chances are I could pull 40oz's with an (8ft x 4ft flower room with a light mover) 1kw hellion running at 1.1kw costing me £480.

LEDs give the plant more useable light(because they can finetune wavelengths of light) - thats why people say a 360w LED is giving the plant the same amount of useful light as a 600w HPS, there or there abouts, so you are saving massively on electric and heat issues (if you have any)
