Default 1st timer - Northern Lights leaves changed colour

    Hi all,

Can anyone have a look at the pics of my plant and let me know what might be going on.

Everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago.

I water it once a week and have recently been adding Sweet Lolita to the water.

Has it dried out too much? Some nutrient deficiency?

You'll have to offer up a bit more info scatty if you want someone to jump in with something like what your feeding and how much
Do you lift the pot to know when to water and looks like it's outside so have you checked for any bugs nibbling away ? Even Monty Don would struggle with just a picture to go on

    Thanks guys,

Yeah I was a bit scant with detail there which probably reflects my ‘hands-off’ approach to it to date. A bit of a disclaimer here. I initially wanted to stick a seed in a pot and cross my fingers that I have a full plant 4months later. Obviously winging it this way is a sure fire way to failure and I promise my next grow will be more scientific with me being more diligent. Anyway, I’ve tried to answer questions best I can and then you can tell me how surprised you are that it’s doing as well as it is ??

Soil, hydro or coco?: just used some potting soil the missus had. (I know, I know)

    Strain: Northern Lights

    Photo or Auto: Auto

    Plant age: 15 weeks

    Pot size: 3ltr

Has it been repotted? and when?: no

Soil type: potting soil for roses I think

Nutes or additives used and how often for soil: started using Madame Grow ‘Sweet Lolita’ about 4 weeks ago when it looked like it started flowering.

Air temps (max min): crazy temps this last 4 weeks, ranging 12C to 31C (night/day)

Res temps (max min): what’s Res temp mean?

    Humidity: around 50% (outdoors)

Lighting type and wattage (hps, led, cfl): Outdoors, northern hemisphere

    Light schedule:

    PH level: no idea

EC (hydro and coco only) N/A

    Background EC. EC?

Feed schedule and nutes (for hydro and coco) N/A

Anything else you think may be relevant! Was watering once a week with a litre of water if it hadn’t rained. Just bought a hydrometer, so now check that it’s dry or low moist before i water. But this is only in the last week or so.

Let me know if you need any more info, but I’m guessing there could be a number of issues here that would be difficult to assess due to the lack of care.

15 weeks is quite old for an auto (although I have limited outdoor auto experience) so it is approaching the autumn of its lifetime.

Also, the moderately cold nights may have had a bearing on the leaf purpling.

Feed and soil choices will also have a bearing.

In short, it could be anything and probably isn’t a single factor.

Just re-checked my calendar and it’s more like 11/12 weeks, not 15.

Got 2 plants next to each other. Treated them both the same. The one with the purple leaves is larger, but the other one is a nice green with nice buds forming. Maybe one one shielding the other from such strong direct sunlight during our latest heatwave Manet it didn’t dry out as much as the other one.

Anyway, got a PH level indicator coming tomorrow, so I’ll check the PH levels and see if there’s any chance of recovering it.

    Thanks for the advice.

I checked the PH levels on both plants and it seems quite high >7. Looks like needle is just below the 8.

So I’ve added some PH down. Watered them yesterday with around 2 litres of PH 5.8 water each (they’re in a 3 gallon pot) and doesn’t seem to have made much difference to the PH of the soil. I’m guessing it’s going to need quite a few goes to get in to a reasonable figure. My question is, do I water daily to get the PH level down to a more reasonable 6 or would that do more damage than the PH issue?

I’m guessing water every 3/4 days max?

Dont PH in soil let the soil balance the PH for you. I grow in soil and used to PH before and it only creates problems. My tap water is 7.5ph.

Next time you water lift the pot up. Check it each day and when you think its light water again. But a 3 gal pot and 13 week old plant I guess u need to water everyday since its eating alot.

    Thanks V8,

Not watering every day at the moment. The soil seems to hold a fair amount of moisture, but I’ll start checking more robustly.

I think I’ve lost the one that’s gone purple.

My other ones looking possibly recoverable, but not well.

(Anyone know why some pics upload sideways?)
