    Default Answered: Germinating seeds

    Hi guys,

I don't know why, but after many years of popping seeds with the wet paper towel method successfully, this year I've had a nightmare, ive probably had about 25% success rate, ive changed nothing apart from strains, Its driving me nuts, and cost me a good bit in seeds too. I'm questioning myself now, how do you guys do it, tap water or mineral water on unbleached plain toilet roll or kitchen roll? Inside a CD case folded over on top of the seeds, this is sat on top of an upturned plastic plant pot on my radiator which is timed for 25 degrees a few times a day. It's always worked until this year..... also how long do you let your tap roots grow before carefully putting them into your medium? Mines compost B&Q 10mm down. Cheers!

Put the cup in a safe place, don’t disturb it as you don’t want tham to sink. Leave them floating & the tap root will grow into the water & then place them in them media."

Glass of tap water, drop the seeds in, put the glass in the cupboard or near my led drivers for 24 hours then straight into the medium. Give em a few days

NO SELL, NO SMELL, NO TELL!!!

Tbf I've never done wet paper towel method.

Normally soak for 3 hrs in tap water n straight into medium? - I call this the soak n poke lol

But just had 2 beans pop after 4 days ignoring the soak part n just doing the poke.

Not much help I know but it's just the way I do it.

Straight out of the packet and into coco pellets. Then under the light. The pellets get misted every 8 hours. Costs me a bit more leccy but means the pellets stay at 29'C/30'C and they sprout sooner. 60 hours for the latest ones.

Seeds used to be so reliable that it was rare to get a dud. idk what's happening. Can't be old seeds in every case. Perhaps the mail is using some kind of auto x-ray device on all packages?

I was wondering if they were being put under something like that maybe it alters the seeds viability

Yep,under the light bud, like Farmer said above it helps maintain steady temps plus it means the light is there when they pop up.

Alright bud, I leave mine in a small cup/pot of water, in darkness for upto 72 hrs, 9/10 success. Taproot is usually about 1 inch. I used wet towel when I started but started suffering seeds not germing
