With the crazy weather we’ve been having around the country lately, I was wondering how growers have dealt with long power outages in the past. Typically I don’t worry about what happened to Dorothy in Kansas, but this year tornados have actually touched-down in New England causing power outages. In my part of the country I’m mostly subject to power outages resulting from snowfall.

Whatever the cause of your power outage, what effect did it have on your grow setup or plants?

Did your 24/0 or 18/6 veggers unintentionally go into 12/12?

    Were your Autos affected?

So what or did you do during your power outage?

How long before things got back to normal in the grow room?

For you hydro folks, I’d imagine a power outage could be a really big deal. Luckily I’ve not experienced more than a few hours without power, but have a cheap portable generator just in case it’s expected to last longer.
    Tell us your stories.

Now he's saying the cyber attacks are going to shut off our power for long periods of time. He's been correct all along.

I remember about 30 years ago the city of Spokane lost power. They needed a special type of transformer that they had to order from Texas and it two weeks to get here. So for two weeks people were dying from using generators inside their house or cooking on hibachis inside the house that kind of thing.

It turns out that transformer was the only transformer in the country. They are made in France and if there hadn't been one in Texas it would have taken more than 6 months to get here. Now that our worldwide delivery and manufacturing system is in a shambles, it could easily take a year or longer.

None of us have any reason to expect our power to be as reliable for the next 20 years as it was for the last 20. I expect just the opposite, widespread blackouts and maybe even liberals wanting to black everybody out on a rotational basis. You know to have some of that equity stuff.

I had to borrow a generator from my uncle during my last grow, a tornado knocked out the powerlines near my house and we diddnt have any power for three days. I ended up hanging a few flash lights in the tent until I could get the generator, it was a real pain in the ass I have been looking into getting a large enough UPS to maintain my grow lights bit it's a rather large investment.

Google bluewalker powerwalker ups. I have 2 of them. They come in different size and power. I have a 480w ups for my light and outtake fan. It will run for 9 hours at full power if the power is out. Can stretch it if I turn the power down to 50%. And another 300w smaller ups for my fans. That 1 will run for 15 hours without input power.

Total i payed 200ish dollar for both.

That can be done with an inverter, a car battery and a mains relay/contactor.

The relay is wired so that if the power goes off, the car battery and inverter powers the fan. When the power comes back on, the battery and inverter are no longer connected.

Electrics ain't really my thing so rather than take what could be an unnecessary risk I'll pay for the convenience of a plug n play option will be here tomorrow

It's still charging up but the ups says at 95% battery it will run my AC Infinity s6 for 114mins. Happy days that should be more than enough for my needs.

Finally stopped being lazy and plugged it all in this morning
