    Default Smscom hybrid

Hi I just bought an ecotechnics controller for my 2 x tornado 3250 fans. The exhaust fan feels like it’s not pulling enough air & my intake is humming very badly & is very loud pulling a lot more air. I have played with the fan speeds but I can’t his the noise/humming/vibrations to go. The room isn’t very big & I can’t seem to get the temps I want 26 from 4 x 600w lights. If the exhaust fan would pull more air like the intake it would be fine?

Since I’ve looked at the smscom hybrid? Will this stop my Issues with hum & noise? Also would it pull more air from the exhaust to get my temps down?

    Any help I’d appreciated
    Thanks

If you have a 600 Watt HPS lamp, the BTUs for that luminaire are the same as a 600 Watt LED. A single watt of power is equal to 3.41 BTUs so a 600W luminaire will produce 2,046 BTUs

x4 that's 8k BTUs of heat to shift

The general recommendation (from what I found on a quick google search) is 3k-4k BTU's of cooling per 1k of heat, so you will need 24000-32000BTU's of cooling to remove that heat.

Without dimming or using less lights you are going to struggle removing that amount of heat with a single extraction fan. Adding a carbon filter to the fan can cut its efficiency by upto 50%, something to remember when speccing fans for a grow room.

The smscom may or may not help with the humming, it will be a buy/borrow one and try it to see. Buy somewhere like amazon with a good return policy and if it doesn't work you can send it back for a full refund or if it does work send it back anyway and buy one from somewhere cheaper

What I would do is see if 1 fan is enough to keep the temps down. Intake fan disconnected, ducting disconnected from exhaust fan. Just a fan and filter blowing clean air into the room.

If the temps are lower than target at full power, then the controller can be fitted to that fan. The 2nd fan fitted to the outlet vent of the room and either run full power or the loudest that can be tolerated. The room is the ducting.

A problem with tents is that the sides suck in if you go for serious airflow with passive inlets. The sides can be braced though.

I used much smaller fans than this before & cleared the room, that’s the part I don’t get my exhaust fan doesn’t sound like it’s pulling that much air either. The ducting feels pretty loose & the intake fan you can tell is working so much harder. Even with the filter of the exhaust fan it doesn’t empty the room any quicker. I was going to buy a second hand hybrid on eBay but I’m not sure what to do now. I don’t know if there is updated versions of these & the one I buy could be years old. Appreciate your help I’ll have a play with the set up today again.

Hi have the same controller used it for a few years and does a good job. If your temps are getting high and the intake fan spins more than the outtake it sounds like you've wired it wrong swop the wires around. If they are wired properly then set your minimum fan speed to about 49 any lower and it'll hum set the max fan speed to 100 then when it hits the desired temp it'll slow down
