Default A fly can stop a car!

A fly can stop a car! Bold statement no? Im gonna explain to you how a fly can stop a car right now. Yep Mac answering the life questions we all need answering.

A fly. Small zippy little bastards, generally annoying as they buzz ya face covered in dog faeces and vomit on ya. This particular fly is buzzing down the road about bumper height at lets say 30mph.

A car, in this case a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7. The best car. Large, loud and fast, Mac is driving this car at the legal limit for the road of 30mph *cough* No really he is, he's trying to hit the fly!

    bzzt.

There it was, he hit it and the fly stopped the car! Amazing, what a cool thing. The fly stopped the car!

You didn't see it .... ffs i told you it was coming and you missed it? bet you was on that damn THCtalk again were you not? Ok ill explain what happened but next time pay attention

Ok the fly was travelling at 30mph head on towards the car. The car was travelling 30mph head on towards the fly. When they collided the fly decelerated from 30mph in one direction down to 0mph then accelerated from 0-30mph in the opposite direction. This all happened in 1 billionth of a nano second(estimated ) which is why you missed it.

When the fly did this it is in direct contact with the car. for 1 billionth of a nano second the fly was stationary, doing 0mph in either direction. If he is in direct contact with the car the car must also be doing 0mph. The flys not moving so the car cannot be either right. the car must also decelerate on impact to 0mph then back up to 30mph just in the same direction it was originally travelling. All in one billionth of a nanosecond

So there you go a fly can stop a car!

    Not for long.

Not without causing irreversible death for the fly.

But in an emergency, if required.

Ooh we should stick flys to people and train them with ninja reactions...boom no more people getting hit by cars!

I have a friend who has a posh degree in physics from Oxford, He knocked me up a multi page powerpoint presentation as to why I was wrong about the fly. Fucking nerd I know we have some clever bods on here that will know the whys and hows to explain it away
I know its wrong but I used to like starting arguments in pubs and that one always got every one wound up tighter than a drum Its one of those ya knows wrong but cant explain why Enjoy

NO SELL, NO SMELL, NO TELL!!!

Can I have a quarter of what you're smoking?

Your theory is wrong, the car never did 0mph as the car was never stationary.... The fly decelerated to 0mph & then increased to 30MPH in the opposite direction.

Mass plays a large part in this (Your Oxford mte probably made that point) & the two masses are too far apart for them not to be taken into consideration.

The car was stationary you just weren't paying attention in the 1 billionth of a nano second like I told you to

He did yes, he made the point very long and very boring, with fucking graphs and illustrations! And he couldn't just let me read it he broke down everything into very long boringly accurate detailed sections to teach me a lesson

One of my favourites for real life trolling was back when tptb were trying to get us all to use CFLs instead of incandescent light bulbs.

The CFL faithful couldn't counter logic and reason because their beliefs had no logic and reason. They'd been told 'Save the planet by using these bulbs' and that's what they did. Didn't matter that those bulbs had mercury in them.

Years later, the truth came out. The power stations were worryingly close to maximum capacity. Building another power station to cope with 50% more demand is one thing. Building another power station to cope with 5% more demand is not cost effective. Cheaper to give away many millions of CFL bulbs to drop demand a notch.

An Oxford scholar and an extremely stoned sloth walk into a bar....
Stop me if you've heard this one.

Cheers Mac and thanks for the laugh this morning.

You don't understand the laws of physics... especially when two masses collide...

I promise you I do , infact you could say I'm Oxford educated on the subject It was just a fun way to wind people up back in the day rather than the usual fare of "oi cunt what u lookin at?"
