Dry Ice Hash Extraction Tutorial
This is my 4th run using this method, I have managed a return of between 15-17% each time. All in all this extraction took less than 30 minutes and that includes a smoke break. If you have ever made Bubble hash in and decent quantity before your probably aware of how time consuming it is, I guarantee you waited far more than 30 minutes just for the water to drain through the mesh, let alone having to scrape it off the bottom of the bags, press the water out of it, and then drying it before you can smoke it. With the Dry Ice Extraction method you can literally be smoking quality hash within minutes of starting the process, no waiting required.
Items used during extraction
*Clean 5 Gallon Bucket (look for a bucket with a smooth bottom)
*Clean Tray (Anything to transfer your hash to, a mirror would work as well)
*Non Static Brush (Highly recommended, use it to clean the sides of the bags after you shake them, and to clean the bucket out)
*Hammer (anything to break the dry ice into smaller pieces, unless you can get dry ice in pellet form)
*Bubble Bags (your preference on which micron bags to use, use 1 or all)
*Dry Ice (Eastern US residents can purchase it from Publix Supermarket)
*Cannabis (Fresh or Cured Buds or Trim, I prefer using fresh trim)
Process
I start by cleaning my 5 Gallon bucket with some isopropyl alcohol, before lining it with my bubble bags, I use the 73, 160, and 220 Micron bags. (Use as many or as few as your heart desires)
I then add my material putting a couple inches of trim, then a few small chunks of dry ice rinse and repeat until the bag is full or you run out of material, This time I started with 441 Grams of fresh trim and larf. (Please wear gloves when handling the dry ice or use extreme caution)
I do not freeze my trim or bud, instead I just close the bag leave the material in it for 10 minutes or so, Its always frozen brittle by the time I get back from my smoke break.
The next part is real easy, just shake the top bag into the one below it until your sick of shaking it,(5 minutes minimum) use the non static brush to get the hash off the sides and bottom of the bag you were just shaking. (In my case this was the 220 Micron)
Once you are done with the top bag just set it aside and add a few more cubes of dry ice to the next bag and shake it vigorously as well, rinse and repeat for any additional bags but this is as far as I went. (pro tip, none of the plant material or trichomes will stick to the dry ice so you can reuse the ice from the above bag) I like to alcohol wash my trays before using them, to make sure I'm getting just the hash I'm making and not any spare contaminates.
The next step is to gather up all your hashy goodness, I use the trays to collect the hash from the bottom of the 160 and 73 Micron bags, what's left in the bucket is going to be the full melt so I don't even count it towards the total, for this run it was probably only 2-3 grams, where as the 160 Micron bag gave me 35.5 grams and the 73 Micron gave me 39.2 grams. (the non static brush will make collecting your hash together go quickly and easily, without it not so much)
I hope this thread proves helpful to any who have yet to make hash using the dry ice method, thanks for taking the time to read this.
Hope your having a great day - Deku
