    Default Tent Heaters...

In the winter my basement tent temperature can drop into the 60's F. with lights-off. I'm considering buying a small, portable heater for the inside of this grow tent and looking for some recommendations. The tent is 48"X 48" X 78" so I don't need a lot of heat at all to raise the temperature. Would like something with a fan-only option with automatic temperature control.

    Any suggestions?

Remember to buy something that dont emmit any light. Or open the unit you buy and remove the leds or tape like a champ so there is NO lightleaks

I really like those little greenhouse heater tubes but can't find them in the states. I'd think you'd want a radiator rather than a fan either way.

Seen too many burnt leaves from misplaced and poorly aimed heater fans

    Cheers mpsj

I use an oil filled radiator which puts out alot of heat whilst also being alot less dangerous than fan heaters. I never trust them in a grow room unless you can monitor it with a camera, get an oil, save loads on the electric bill

Also, best thing I've ever done is buy bubble wrap insulation and cover the whole tent in it during winter, helps keep those temps up whilst using less electric

Interesting...never heard of the heater tubes so I Googled them. I will dig a little deeper into their use and availability near me.

I use a 80w heater tube in my tent 1.2mx1.2m and they are not the best. Only raise the temperature about 3 degrees, tried to save on the leccy with it being 80w but definitely would recommend a oil rad for people looking. Plus the oil rad can be turned off when hot and will keep the heat for a good while before needing turned back on.
Can't remember if there is a picture in my diary but it would in the middle of the tent if there is one on page 2
    EDIT
No pictures of my tube heater in my diary

I sit an oil rad in my grow room just to keep temps stable when the heating isn't running. I have a small room just for my grow gear and my 4x4 tent in my basement the thermostat for the forced air heating is upstairs,I also insulated the ceiling to keep heat in longer it seems to be working great so far and the energy bill hasn't really gone up by anything noticeable.
My autoflower tent sits next to the hot water tank, and the furnace in the basement, the temps and RH are perfect for me there just now but it hasn't dropped to -30 outside yet.

I've got a fan heater pointed into a corner next to my large floor standing fan so it picks up the heat and pushes it around the room.
And its hanging from the roof so it can be lifted up as the plants grow.

If you have a oil filled rad, convection or fan blown it's always a good idea to use an oscillating fan near to move the heat around otherwise you will get a hot spot.

Them tube heaters are used in mobile welfare trailers on site, they have a metal guard over them as they get a little hot when used at full power but there good at heating a decent space.

A small tube heater 1 to 2 feet long shoud do it. You Can get a 60W 1 foot tube heater from that ubiquitous site with bay in the name, that with the lights shoould be more than adequate.

If all else fails, a 60watt light bulb will do it.
If you grow non auto plants keep the light really well covered during the dark period as has been said previously.
Light leaks are not good for photo period plants.
A small fan at the top of the tent directing the warm air down and one on the light housing would be helpful PC fans are ideal, they are quiet and use little power.
