Default What's wrong with my new seedling?

Here's my new autoflower which seems unhappy.

    * Germinated seed was planted Nov 14th
    * 1 gallon cloth bag
    * ProMix Seedling Starter Soil on the top third of the pot
    * Fox Farm Ocean Soil on the bottom two thirds of pot + lots of extra perlite.
    * It's in a 2x2 about 3 feet away from a Mars Hydro TS600, max distance, and off to the side as much as possible.
    * There is a humidifier in the tent running 24-7 to keep the humidity around 50%, temp 23c
    * It's also under a dome that I try to keep moist, I let fresh air in a few times a day
    * Tap water, de-chlorinated, no nutrients

Initially it exploded out of the soil a grew faster than my other seedlings (this is my 4th plant ever) so I thought it was loving the ProMix Seedling Soil compared to my other seedlings which were put directly into Foxfarm Ocean Soil which I've learned is a bit too strong for young plants.

But after about a week it doesn't look very happy - in the past 3 days it hasn't grown at all and seems stunted. It's hard to photograph properly but here are some pics, my hand / parchment paper is in a few of the shots to help the camera focus. It has a really long stem and one of its leaves is black on the tip which is the main reason I'm concerned.

Is this from too much light? It's the only thing I can think of so today I started covering it with the piece of parchment paper to lower the intensity.

Am I overreacting or should it be a bit further along after a week? Any suggestions?

Once that 1st set of leaves open, get the domes off imo.

The roots will cope fine from there so long as you don't drown them. To help avoid doing that water slowly and imagine a pint glass turned upside down over your plant. Anything not under the imaginary pint glass is fine to water. Anything under the imaginary pint glass (the seedling) will wick what it needs from the rest and send roots growing out to look for the source

I've never used a humidity dome and have never had a seedling die on me. Apart from the one I dropped. I've seen plenty of seedlings do badly or die when domes are used.

The pot has moisture which is always evaporating. That creates a small area of higher humidity around the seedling.

In the rest of the cupboard, it was less than RH50%.

    Pics are one week apart.

I agree. I didnt use a dome and I only had one that didnt pop. Not saying they dont have their place, but unless you live or the plants live in a harsh environment-i'd just let them do their thing

I think once you get the dome off she'll take off. With the exception of the droopy leaves it looks pretty good. stem nice and thick. Think she's healthy downstairs, just damp and moody upstairs.

I think the board is pretty agreed on this one. I've been using dome but only if the seedling is rocking a helmet head to keep the shell moist. Once the leaves are out, give them direct a line to the light! I'd say this one was loved dearly. And maybe too much. As growers we have to remember to get out of the way of nature sometimes and let a plant be a plant. No domes in nature.

Did you let it dry out a bit Trip? Is this a photoperiod? If so let's soldier on! If it's an auto, I'd opt for a restart.

Don't know about autos, but I've seen that with photoperiods. My guess is the roots are dying...probably too much water.

Definitely keep the dome off now. The way you layered your soil is probably affecting the seedling a little bit too.

The Fox farm ocean forest is too hot for seedlings, but you can't just put 1/3 of a seedling mix on top and then 2/3 of Fox farm on the bottom.

What you want to do next time is have a cone shaped hole in the middle of your Fox farm Ocean Forest that goes all the way to a point at the bottom of the pot, you fill that cone in with your seedling starting mix.

The main reason is your tap root will just go down as far as it can go as quickly as it can and it will get into that hot stuff too early if you just layer a flat layer of soil.
