Have you succesfully used this method before? I always use rooting cubes and most take root. Not sure about going direct into water. I would say if cuttings still look healthy you have hope.

IME they don't root well in water. I would cut off about a 1/4 inch of stem and re dip in rooting
solution and put in a cube or cup of soil and put a dome over it. Just mist the dome every day.
This will make it grow roots and go look for water. Only leave the top set of leaves on or it will
get to much water through them and slow down rooting.

I've done tons of clones and never use that water only method. My cutting always go directly into a grow medium.

I like the water bottle method, it's not 100%, but MSN is it easy.
I don't normally see roots until week 2 or even three, this is a very slow method to root clones.

I see no mention of light...They will need at least a veg cycle of light 18/6. I prefer 24hr...Anyway I wouldn't bother pissing about rooting them in water, get them in root riot, rockwool or jiffy cubes..100% strike rate here

The bigger the stem on cuttings the better, they use the stored carbs as energy. Minimal leaves is also important since they live off the stored carbs. If you really want to start them in water only drop in some willow or aspen bark they'll root faster.

What's the least amount of light that's suitable for cloning?

Ideal place for me would be the kitchen. The 5" strip light is always on. I could have a heated box kept on top of the fridge freezer. Distance from the strip light would be about 4'.

I used to be able to take a few cutting every couple of weeks off a mother I kept under a 50w ufo light, I think she would have survived on less.
So i'm sure clones would also thrive under even a limited amount light.

I used a bathroom light fixture and had 3- 20w cfl's over my propagator.
