    Default Button mushrooms

Has anyone here grown these indoors before?

What are the pros & cons of doing so?

Once upon a time I grew other mushrooms, from the looks of them they would probably grow in similar conditions. I'll take a spore print of a button mushroom later and see how hard it is to inoculate a few jars of grains.

As a teenager, I remember my parents getting a GYO mushroom bag... can't really remember much about it though Just remember we had plenty of fresh mushrooms for breakfast

they are one of the easiest things to grow, you can even get cheap kits with everything you need to get you started. they can be pretty much left alone in a dark hole somewhere and they will do fine.

    pros:
    *cheap/free mushrooms.
    *have fun.
*more of a connection to your food.
*organic (if you choose)/you control what happens to them.
*infinite supply of mushrooms from one mushroom.
*with enough experience you can go and clone any mushroom you find in the wild.
**honestly i could list a LOT more pros if i thought about it.

    cons:
*you have to spend a little more time compared to going to the supermarket.
    *not ideal for quadriplegics.

button mushrooms are even easier than "other mushrooms". no misting, no grain jars, no still air box/flow hood, etc. if you can grow "other mushrooms" then this is the kind of project you do with your toddler grandchild on the weekends.

I didn't know I wanted to grow button mushrooms at home until right now. Sounds easy and I have 4 mostly functioning limbs.
Mrs billboy wouldn't appreciate the other mushrooms but everyone in my family loves em. Thanks for the project idea!

    Cheers

I'm often looking for things to grow over winter as I miss the outdoor growing

Most of the kits I'm seeing online don't have a great looking yield. Looks like a tote or even a large cardboard box may be the better route. Then again, I'm not sure how much you really like mushrooms.

So then, the casing, that barley starter stuff in a jar, and a syringe a the very least. Unless you're going to take spores from the store bought variety. Sure you don't want to get your fingernails dirty and handmix some cow poo?

    Cheers
