Default Mills organics? Anyone used them yet. Very acidic in my water

    Hello gang
Hope you are all well and puffing happily

Anyway, has anyone used the new mills organic range yet. I'm a big fan of mills usual line up, it's an excellent range, so I was happy to get a sample of their new organic nutes.
    4 bottles, a calcium, a base a veg and a flower additive, so 3 at a time.

One thing I have noticed though in comparison to my usual biobizz fishmix and bloom is that the solution is realllllly acidic, down to 4.2ph in my v soft, pH 7 tap water. Biobizz drops it to 5.2 and a little pH up brings it to 6 ish which is ideal..

The mills, however, in a 20 litre bucket, takes 15 ml of straight pH up to bring to 6. A ridiculous amount of potassium hydroxide (growth tech pH up). I even bought a new bluelab pH meter as I didn't believe how much I needed to add.

Regardless, the plant has grown well, there is less calcium deficiency showing compared to the others, but tbh it's really quite negligible and the price increase if I was to go full mills would be a massive amount. Prob 4 or 5 times the cost of my current biobizz method.

I might get the calcium supp and run that with my normal plan, but as for the rest, I'm afraid I can't justify it.
When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all.

That is, indeed, quite some drop!

I wouldn't be happy using that amount of PH up either prime, add to that the 4-5x the cost as you mentioned it seems like one for those rare situations where a grower has an extremely high 'base' PH out of the tap perhaps?

Yeah mate, it's a strange one. I've never seen a product so buffered that it takes that much pH up, surely it can't be good for the soil microbes. I think without my constant application of the bactorr, I'd have noticed issues. The plants come down this weekend, but I really doubt that there is any difference in yield or quality, not enough to justify the cost.

I've used Liquid Silicon as pH up. RO water and the lucas formula is pH 5.2. In a 20L res, adding 15ml of Liquid Silicon gave pH 6.2.

Beneficial soil microbes thrive best when the pH is between 5.5 and 6.5. Outside those values will likely result in less than ideal growing conditions.

A little addition to the post

Since harvest, a few weeks ago I have not been using the remaining mills organics nutrients, they have just been sitting there in the cool and dark.
When tidying up before I noticed the bottle of base nutrient had swollen up. Sure enough it's been fermenting inside and had a distinct alcohol aroma.
Safe to say that I won't be using mills organics again.
