Default Germinating seeds with heat mat, humidity dome and rock wool

All the gear, no idea ????

What’s the best way to germinate seeds using the above? Planning on popping the seeds in water overnight, then in tissue until the tap root comes out. Then placing them in the rock wool in the humidity dome on the heat mat.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks ????

That all sounds good to me
I’d just be little wary of a heat mat it’s not something Id use,I’d be too concerned of the rock wool/pellet drying out at such a delicate stage.

Folks on here have all sorts of crazy ways to germinate,a slow cooker being the latest lol.

I don't subscribe to the concept of keeping a seed warm to germinate... I just leave mine in the kitchen, even in winter, no problem

I don’t know I’ve not really popped that many seeds, putting them in the cupboard with the boiler works for me,although it wouldn’t at the mo,I darnt put the bloody heating on with all this 50% rise in the news, currently sat huddling a little oil filled radiator

Man I've been popping a whole bunch of seeds for science. Culled all but one. The heat mat, from my experience, sped up the germination by 1- 2 days in a small sample size of roughly a dozen.

I used tiny peat cups full of peat/coco however. And they went directly from the package to wet media with the cup sitting in water. Dry seed to sprout in 3 - 3.5 days repeatedly and without fail. One was faster.

So I'm convinced that heat, using peat/coco in my tiny micro-lab speeds up germination.

Your mileage may vary, OP and my sample size is admittedly tiny. Just thought I'd chime because I picked up a heat mat recently and have been trying to figure out the best way to use it.

Not the best pic but this whole setup is packed away right now:

Or you could use the french method:

Both heat sources produced very quick results from seed.

This is NOT the french method.

All this experimentation was the result of losing a whole mess of seeds that I wanted to grow. Had to find a "better" way or at least one that made me feel better.

Hell, I had to change the name of a diary because the danged seeds embarassed me live!

I agree with MC for the most part nothing fancy. I have noticed a significant difference adding heat to the equation.

I start off by plopping my seed in room temperature water. Leave it in a dark place for ~ 8 hours. After those several hours ill come and poke the seed to get it so sink. Have no idea why, saw it somewhere. Think it might be higher pressure under the water? Anyhoo, after another night or so i’ll wrap it in a moist paper towel and place it in a sandwich bag until the taproot is atleast 3/4” long. I recently started doing that process on top of my router for some extra heat. Blue has advised me to use caution doing that, said you can cook your seeds.

I just tried a heat mat and rock wool for the first time 3 out of 4 popped in 3 days. After soaking in water for 16 hours.
Tried the paper towel method similar results.
    Either way works for me..

As far as heating mats go, I've had improved germinating and seedling growth using one. Mine has a thermostat so I'm able to set the grow medium to a specified temperature. I set it at 75- 78 F. which seems to work well.
