    Default Sweet Basil project

With my basement now at its winter’s low of 66 F. and 29% humidity, I thought it would a good time to fire-up my newly built germination chamber.

I soaked the seeds overnight in warm tap water in darkness then placed five or six Basil seeds ¼” deep in 4 plastic containers. After incubating for only 3 days I already have eight popping-up through the soil from three containers. I have my heat pad set at 75 F. and the humidity peaks at 98% inside the dome. 24/0 lighting.

Day 9 from seed. They seem established so time to take the dome off. Should be smooth sailing from here.

So you can cook these 24/7 like an autoflower? Are herbs all C3 because that would be super.

    Cheers maposajo

Basil only needs 6 hours minimum but more light is better. Very soon I will transplant some of these seedlings into 10" pots and switch to 12/12 under an LED. Don't know about all herbs but Basil uses C3 photosynthesis. Some studies have shown it does respond favorable in response to increases in C02.
    Here's a few pics at day 21.

Today I transplanted some seedlings into 10” pots. Added two liters of tap water to each pot and put then under the 150 watt LED. After playing around with the PPFD Meter I decided to set the basil 24” from the light at 75% power. We’ll see if they like that for now.
