    Default First Coco bro

i have a 5 kg bail of mother Earth's coco
A buddy told me to mix it 50/50 with soil. Is that a good idea? Can I just grow in straight Coco? If I do have to mix with soil is fox farm a good choice? Been a long time since I have been able to grow so I'm real rusty and so many things have changed. Hope I don't annoy y'all with a million questions

You can do either, the coco will improve the drainage if you mix it with the soil, alternatively you could grow in the coco by itself, if you go that route however you will need coco specific nutrients.

Like Deku said you can do either,I personally grow in straight coco,no soil,no perlite,no pebbles.

Whatever you decide, there will be pros and cons.

All grow methods will keep you in bud. Go for whichever will annoy you the least. For me, that's passive hydro drain to waste. Some detest the daily feeding with passive. I'm here every day so no never mind. No pumps to break or plumbing to leak. Unlike soil, I don't need to be able to read the plants. Growing by numbers.

Coco is the most popular media for dtw. A fly in the ointment is calmag deficiencies as coco messes with the nutes a bit. Coco growers accept that and add calmag.

Some will tell you that ec/pH meters are essential with coco. They're not. If they said: 'Correct use of ec/pH meters will help to increase your yields in coco' then they may have a point. Correct usage involves a bit of a learning curve though and how much extra yield for how much extra effort?

Here's my first and so far, only completed coco grow. Tap water, GH Micro and GH Bloom. Nothing else, no ec/pH meters used. Not perfect but it's taking me far longer to smoke that harvest than it took to grow it.

The destination is self sufficiency. As long as we get there, the route we took doesn't matter.

IMHO use coco or soil, don't mix it. I know some do but, IMHO, that is not the best way forward

How many watts does your led draw?

That grow was under a 315w cmh in 7 sft. The cmh has been replaced by 2 x HLG 100 for a draw of 190w. They're hung as high as they will go, ~60" from the pots. There's no stretch to worry about so far. In fact, I could do with more height and less width. Only a month in but led is looking good to me.
