Default How do you germinate your seeds?

There's been a lot about germination of seeds lately & it makes me wonder what the most used method is...

so, how do you germinate yours

...and what is the best tip you can share for new growers?

I put my seeds in a shot glass of plain tap water overnight & then into damp kitchen roll, which stays moist in a tupperwear style box until they pop

...and my best advice? Don't worry about cold temps - it may take a little longer but it will still happen!

See, I started them straight in wet paper towel for about 3-4 days and got 90% success, always on the sky box. Then it just stopped workin, had 8 out of 10 not pop.

So I just drop em in a little pot of water, keep em in the kitchen cupboard and they pop almost every time now

I'm the same as mrc I had a really hight germ rate for about 2-3 years, straight in paper towel then all of a sudden it stopped working, now I put them in tap water for 24hrs then paper towel worked well on my last lot.

Room temp water for 24hours then into soil inside a dome for 2-5 days till they come to life.

I used to do the paper towel method but IMO sussess rate goes down. More likely you damage the tap root

I soak peat pellets in tap water until they have expanded, make a small hole about 1cm deep, drop seed in, gently close the hole. Put the pellets in a Tupperware box in a warm place. Usually a sunny window sill above a radiator. It’s not very often they don’t come up. Just have to make sure the peat stays damp.

I never had very good germination rates with the paper towel method. Right now I get very good germination with putting them in tap water in a covered shot glass overnight...then into Rapid Rooter plugs under a dome until they germinate and root. Then the plug gets transplanted into soil.
I'm tempted however next grow to go from the shot glass to soil in a dome like V8 does. It would be nice to eliminate a step.

I've used the paper towel method and have also put the seeds straight into the medium with a 100% success rate so far. Probably just jinx myself
My advice would be, be patient.

Throw them in A glass of water, sit them on the hot water heater for A day or so, then into the soil.

That said I probably wasn't very patient. I don't know why but having faith and confidence in what you do also seems to help with success.

I do similar. Expanded coco pellets. 1" hole, drop seed in and close it up. Straight from the seed packet, no pre soak. Before changing to led, it was often under the 24/0 cmh to give them constant warmth.

I've done the same in the kitchen. The c/h keeps the room temps to at least 20'C. They took 6 to 7 days to sprout. Under the cmh, the fastest sprouts came up in 60 hours.
