Default 150 Watt L.E.D. distance from plants

For distance from plants my 150 Watt L.E.D. light recommends 24"-30" for Germination; 24" for Seedlings; 18"-24" for Vegging and 12"-18" for Flowering. The light also has a dimmer switch. I'm assuming those distances are using full power.
This is my first L.E.D. When would I use the dimmer?

    Use the dimmer in Veg.

Iā€™d start it at 30%, at 18ā€-20ā€. Keep a close eye on the stretch. If she stretches i would lower the light before adjusting dimmer. Thats just me

And if you dont have a par meter i would use a phone app. By no means accurate but i think they get you in the ballpark

Use the dimmer when you want them taller and less wide I'd guess.

My plants are acting like they're under a blue vegging light. 27w led psf and the internodes are only 1" apart. I'm sort of stuck with it. Can't raise the lights any higher and there's no dimmer. If I wanted to do a scrog, I'd have to turn one of the lights off to get enough upwards growth.

My lights manufacturer manual says 24in for veg 18in for flower. The dimmer has 10 steps I think, I start them on the lowest and increase it by a step every week or so. Unless the plants tell me otherwise.

Seems like I have some flexibility.

You'll get some trial and error, but yeh it is based on full power I'd imagine. Go lower to keep em shorter and the nodes tighter imo

I went on line and tried a few PAR Meter apps. I ended-up installing the PPFD Meter app for now. My phone display using the built-in Sensor seems very sensitive to light distance. Whether accurate or ballpark it was fun to play-around with. Helped a lot in understanding what you can do using the dimmer switch mode.

PAR meters have gone up A lot. I remember just about 5 years ago, I only paid about 30 bucks for the one I have. I've noticed today the same one is over 300 bucks.

That's strange. . It's usually the other way around.
