Default Adding water supply to humidifier

Hi Allie want to sure where to post this felt this was the best category for it.

Ok so I have a ram humidifier with a 5ltr reservoir which won’t even last a day as where my tent is is very dry. So I’m looking at adding a 25ltr container to the reservoir.

What I did was added a 1/4 inch bulk head into the top of the humidifier with a piece of pipe inside the reservoir and an in-line tap on the outside connected to a 25ltr barrel, but I believe due to loss of vacuum it just kept feeding water resulting in the humidifier overflowing constantly resulting in me blowing my humidifier up .

Does anyone know the science behind this and what I need to do to keep the vacuum seal to stop it draining constantly and stop when it’s full and only fill when the water level drops?

I have considers a ro float valve but feel it’s going to do the same due to vacuum loss?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Dan

Flaot valve and keep your 25ltr tank elevated let gravity do the work, or a vertical electrical float switch with a 12v low power pump.

With the vertical switch it will be as simple as cutting desired hole size in humidifier tank next to filler hole and installing it through the filler hole into its place tighten nut on the top then wire it into a low power 12v pump that will be sitting in your larger tank.

Then plumb your water pipe in, either through another hole or just pushed into the filler hole.

Or something like in the picture, it has a top hat gromit on it so drill a hole in the side and push it through simple.

Keep the live constant on the pump and use the neutral for switching, but like i say try get a low powered 12v pump i personally wouldn't want to mess on with mains powered stuff. Click image for larger version.

Cheers funkygawg. So with the float valve in the picture does that connect to a small pump which would then sit in the 25ltr barrel?

    Thanks

You can get 12v power supply that has the end you can screw wires into (modular).
Not sure if all 3 pics will stay on here as I'm uploading using TapatalkClick image for larger version.
