    Default Power costs

With the price of energy spiraling upwards, I would imagine that many of us are looking at keeping our costs down...

I grow autos, with a 250w HPS on 24/0, this means I maximise my growing potential and have no need for any form of heating. That said, I do run (up to) 5 fans - I may have to revisit that & if prices get silly high, I have the ability to dim my bulb...

What are your tips for keeping costs down?

Vegging photos at 12/12. With a household led 24/0 to stop them flowering.

AC Infinity S4 fan. 28w at full speed compared to the 80w used by my 8" rvk at 40% power.

    315w cmh replaced with 2 x HLG 100. From 320w down to 190w.

No heaters. Temps are 5'C cooler with the leds, so be it. imo it's likely that using a heater has it costing more to grow per gram than an unheated grow. A wattage meter to see how many kw/hrs the heater used in a week would show if heating is cost effective or not.

Anyone actually try and estimate how much they spend a year on grow electricity? Last time I did mine under full operation I was spending about $450/year. Probably less now with some scheduling and improvements in my operation.

I have calculated the total cost of a grow. Can't remember what just the leccy was but at the time, it was ~£350 for a full 600w hps scrog. (Leccy was cheaper then.)

Before the recent price rises the 24/0 315w cmh + rvk in my cupboard cost ~£13 a week to run.

My last company went bust and I’ve been handed over to these who have just sent me this.
Tbh not done a meter read in a while,I’m ignoring it.So these figures havnt factored in my last and current grow which is using an oil filled rad.
This post did get me intrigued though on what my current grow will cost,so I had a go at working it out.
I’m not going to include heating costs as I don’t grow in the winter as a rule,One maybe two grows between the months of March and October is my usual practice and I don’t need to heat during those months.

So if paying 20.076 per kWh

    98w T5 on 24/7 @ 5 weeks = £17.50

    600w led on 18/6. @ 3 weeks = £45.00

    600w led on 12/12 @ 9 weeks = £90

    600w HPS on 12/12 @ 8 weeks = £90

    40w fan £10.00 total
    Extraction run at 25% 175w £30 total
    Pump £5 total

    Total £287.50./17 weeks = £16.90 per week
That’s less than 2oz of bud,I’ll take that any day of the week.
Obviously will drastically go up with the price rise, but that has me pleasantly surprised.
Unless I’m daft and have it completely wrong.
Feel free to work out my new rate

That's my point Beth, everything is getting more expensive to run & there has to come a time when we re-evaluate how we are doing things

How much do you pay per kwh in u.s. dollars? I'm not sure of what conversion factor to use. I pay on average. 13 u.s.cents ( 0.13 dollar) per kwh.

Going by the chart Beth posted, the conversion is roughly 0.36$ per kwh (for the increased rate).

The daily 'standing charge' will be roughly 0.64$.
