I want my plants feeding on the soil to the point only about 20% of the soil is left when the grow is over. While many would call my plants root bound the fact is there feeding on the soil as it breaks down. And to get this machine going requires just a bit more moisture than most are comphy with. I only use #5/7 plastic cheap nursery pots. No bag or air pots, don't need or want them. I've been using Bloom City basic dry ferts in the soil and my water mix is cal-mag, silicate of some sort and molasses. This grow is a 50/50 mix of Fox Farms Ocean Forrest and Nector of the Gods #8 soils. I started doing this many many years ago as I had no time to fart around with my grows. I was working full time, commuting two hours a day, kids, wife and normal life. Plus I enjoy my motorcycles, shooting, reloading and other activity's. Even with the quart watering I didn't get any run off. They will get another quart Tuesday or Wednesday. The only thing I still need to do it get a small bag of Demetrious earth and work it in the top layer of soil for bug protection. I love it when the gnats and other critters think there going to do some birthing in my dirt. The Demetrious earth kills all invaders and they become food for the plants. Now that I'm retired I'm going to start working with other nutrients now that I have some time now that I'm retired. Have a Nector of the Gods sampler kit coming in for the next grow. But having enough Bloom City dry ferts and coming off a open heart surgery last August I figured it best to keep this grow feed wise simple like the work days and focus more on light, temp, rh upgrades.
