Default Help with hot Attic Summer Grow with Sativas

    Hey there,

I'm considering starting a late summer grow and would like any assistance on succeeding against high heat temps.
I understand high heat has major implications, but please work with me.

I was reviewing the extended weather forecast through September of 2022, and its forecasted to be a mild summer.
I grow in my Attic, temps are roughly 15 to 20 degrees warmer than outside temps and neutral in the winter.
Example: If it's 75F outside, my attic is mid 80's and when its 85F outside, It can get to 100F.

Given this bit of information I am thinking the following, start photo grow in July, keep RH in the 65 to 70% range and grow in 10 gallon pots to keep the roots cooler while in Veg. Use microbial root supplement like Great White, to manage stress and stay low PPM on overall nutrients.

I have no AC, this would max out my two 20 Amp breakers, so adding one is no Bueno. I did cut a hole so I can pull fresh air from the house to the attic tent, so AC air gets sucked into the tent. It's not great, but it helps a bit with temps. I have a large diy humidifyer that can achieve 60% humidity, combined with the heat, keeping RH at 65 to 70% should be doable to stay in an acceptable VPD range. Fans for air movement and my tent is enclosed in 2 inches of ridged foam, except the front door. The front door has two sleeping bags zipped together to cover the door. I have ac infinity 8" exhaust and 6" intake that is pulling the indoor AC air. So that's pretty much it.

I will be running a journal for this grow. I also ordered a few more sativa strains and will review which might be best for this type of climate.

    Please comment.

    Thanks!

Good luck with your grow. Any chance to increase the power on the 6" intake from the cooled house? Are you taking in the air from the ceiling where it is warmer? Is it possible to snake the intake closer to an ac output? What type of lights are you running? Cheers!

Plants can handle the heat no issue.

Look at the heritage of most modern strains (specialy autos) they mostly come from Pakistan/india/africa/cali. Really hot areas.

The key is airflow in hot situations to keep the moisture from settling. Plenty of it. Make sure all your fans are working together, if ya extractors at the top make sure ya circulation fans all point up to push the heat out as quickly as possible, and vice versa if ya extractors at the bottom.

Was a lad on here a while back grew in a tent inside a shed in Australia with temps regularly hitting 45c+ and he still harvested decent weight so it can be done

Airflow and more of it is the general answer for How do I grow in heat/high humidity??

I agree with Mac but some strains are more heat tolerant than others. Grow strains from hot areas.

ofc there are exceptions Heavily ruderalis strains wont cope well (ruderalis is originally Russian/eastern European in origin so colder climate completely )

EDIT: forgive me, I see you are running photos, the ruderalis wont be a concern

Plants can take higher temps with led lighting. That would be the way I would go.

If your any good at DIY, build a room(use thick insulation 200mm(earth wall) in the walls/ceiling ), draw the cool air in from the house(5" hole in loft hatch) and extract the hot air into the loft space(6"), may cost 200-£300 but you will be able to keep your environment good all year, hot temps will make things more difficult and will reduce the crop size and bud quality, guess your going to be drying the buds in high temps 80-90f

For the larger crop size of higher quality weed its worth the time and investment.

Hey there ToughCall, where is your houses ductwork reside? Attic or crawlspace/basement (presuming that you have one). May be a no go depending on your answer, but if ductwork is in the attic, you could tap into it, and take measures to insulate your tent. Hardboard insulation might work for this.

I'm just spit-balling here, so none of this may apply to you, but figured that I would throw it out there in case it does.
