    Default Verve Multipurpose Compost

I used to rave about this stuff... but now it's peat free - what are your experiences?

Mine? I think the new stuff is shit! My chillis hate it, my cucumber accepts it, my tomatos don't care for it & my pepper plant sticks two fingers up at it

I'm sure I've heard they're getting rid of peat in all soils eventually

Can only recommend Bio bizz light mix, as that's all I've used.

If soil growing is going to become difficult in the future more people will probably switch to coco, not sure how that helps environmentaly though as it uses a lot more water

Perhaps time to look into diy soil blends. Is this just garden center/diy shop soil or all soil?

Fairly sure it will be all soil sold.
"The Government is taking steps to ban peat from bagged composts by 2024". Apparently.

Most of the composts from the big players seem to be full of wood chippings these days.
Still seem to keep my annuals going throughout the year though.
I’ll have my own next year so won’t have to buy the shite

John innes is what I've used for my tomatoes and other veggies for many years, with very good results, for younger plants/seedlings, I use John Innes Compost No 1 & 2, for the more mature ones (established roses for example) I will use John Innes No 3

Mate the same stuff in the 10ltr bags that’s kept indoors is much better

I don't go by the name but" jacks magic" seems to be good, often I see a split bag of compost(any make), I check the quality because it could be full of bark, stones or plastic, alway looking for a fine grade. You could then add some coco, sharp sand and Worm casting, buy all these cheap in bulk, last years and will give you great results.

I never buy a bag of compost, chuck it in a pot and hope for the best
