Default Unanswered: Turning a Male plant Female......

Firstly I have not tried this, I was looking into turning a Female plant Male, to get some Pollen to make seeds, I was looking at Colloidal Siver which I have used before with limited success, I only got 10 seeds of which six were viable. An article caught my attention about Silver Nitrate and Sodium thiosulphate, which I might try instead.
Then I wondered if a male plant that most growers discard could be turned, Female?
I was very surprised that it appears this is possible and can work up to Four Weeks after a plant has declared, it also appears that this process is a lot quicker than Female to Male.
I reiterate, I have not tried this, but it seemed too good not to post here, The original article states to 'Dust' the top of the plant with Ethylene, but isn't Ethelyne a Gas, it sounds too good to be true, so it possibly is, I know a Lot of Fruits and Veggies give off Ethelyne gas though, I do remember many years ago that a grower posted that he put some seeds in a bag with a Banana skin, and they all grew as females, I haven't tried that either?
If you are a Photo Grower though, it might save a few plants that would otherwise be discarded, also it stated that ALL of the plant can be smoked afterwards as Ethelyne doesn't stay in the plant.
I only grow Feminized Auto's these days, so it won't be something I would try.

Has anybody any input on this

Easy way I have found to make female pollen was just to stress out the female plant with A high powder HPS, such as a 1,000 Watter. JMO

Never heard of turning A male into A female though that is news to me. haha

True, but say you had a 100 Photoperiod seeds, approx 50 will be Male, could be more or less, Most growers accept this and stop them growing, but if this method actually works and you could recover a few of them, that would be a bonus, as Ethelene disperses in air, ALL of this plant could be smoked, I would be very reluctant to use one for breeding though, but practicalities aside, on paper it is a good idea, IF, that's a big IF it works

Hi Tightnugs, I totally agree with you and it is a very practical way of doing it, but what if you grow a plant and it's Male, that's nearly always a disappointment at wasted Time, Space and Effort.
Some growers only grow one or two plants, if just one is Male, that's 50% of their crop gone, with my luck it would probably be both and that grow would be written off.
So, turning a Male Plant Female, could be a crop saver, that is what the original post was about, I found the post by accident, but the possibility of turning a disaster into a smokeable grow, I'm up for that and I think a good many others would be too.

I see where your coming from mate.
Any males I get I keep the pollen but I have the luxury of growing out males in a separate space.
    Good luck with your venture
