Erm not sure this is correct.

I'm no venting specialist but I always understood vertical was generally the best way to vent hot air as hot air will naturally rise and therefore requires LESS mechanical support? It is, after all, the way a chimney has worked for 1000's of years.

Water or liquids in general you're absolutely correct as they are concerned with head height but hot air doesn't suffer from the same considerations. What matters with ventilation is the smoothness and length of the runs - so wide radius bends and no sharp corners not the direction it's travelling.

Happy to be proven otherwise though.

    That was my origional thinking

However, it would appear to be either:-

Too large a volume of air required to move
    or
    something else

I tried initially with a 4" extraction RVK fan (that should have easily coped) but got smell leak deep into flowering

The 5" RVK did the trick

    It's interesting.

    I've found anecdotally the following.

    • My carbon filter works better pulling than it does pushing (i.e. on the fan inflow instead of the fan outflow)
    • To remain completely smell free I have to create a strong negative pressure in the tent (so the walls visibly pull inwards)
    • If I have ANY of the vents open, even with negative pressure, I get smell
    • Circulation fans don't seem to make the smell any better/worse regardless of where they're pointed, only whether the vents are open or not
    • Very late harvest (last week of flower) I get a smell regardless of anything I do even with my ACInfinity 6" on level 10

I wish I had the space to do a better job with my ventilation as I'd like to use a bigger 1m filter and I had toyed with having a filter on the inflow and the outflow but just don't have the space.
