    Default How to read the cheap EC meters (feed chart)

    It’s been a while that I’ve forgotten how to read the cheaply EC meters.

    I’m loosely using a feed chart and the target conductivity is stated between 8 - 10, but doesn’t state 8 - 10 what (I’m guessing just 8 - 10 EC?) The feed chart nutrients values are all based on 10L of water, but think this also includes the target conductivity although it’s not clear. My last feed read 0486 µS/cm on the meter. (This was 1.5ml of root feed along with 0.5ml of part A and B diluted with 300ml of water calculated down from the 10L amounts stated on the chart)

    From what I understand 1 EC is 1 mS/cm, so 1 mS/cm is the same as 1000 µS/cm. The meter should be looking for 8,000 - 10,000 µS/cm? So a 300ml feed should be looking for around 100 - 300 µS/cm? I want to make sure I’m not getting my wires crossed. The root feed is a few years old

    Could you share with us the name of the feed at all?..we may be able to find this chart you're looking at.

    It could be referring to CF?..which would be an EC between 0.8 - 1.0, but I can't be 100% sure without more information.

    Check out this chart ;

    Be careful with old feed. Especially if it's a semi natural liquid. If it looks like it's separating or smells funny I would avoid it. Most regular root feeding nutrients should last for many many years if the formula was properly stabilized.

    That was something I was wondering. I’m probably around 2+ years on the root feed but it does smell the same. Nothing on the part A & B. I was using the shogun feed chart as I’m using part A and B and using Bcuzz root stimulator. I have vita link calmag but might go with the shoguns 9/18 towards the end of the flowering stage.

    I wouldn't bother using a cheap EC meter ,just my opinion I'd go without ,or buy a reputable pen ...the cheap tds pen won't help you out going forward , also I'm sure there are numerous tds charts to cover certain makes of pens ,just my opinion mind

    That said, I just want an EC reading. I don't want to convert it in any way, shape or form!
