pot size depends more on the length of growth of your plants,
a plant vegged for 16 weeks needs more root space than a plant only vegged for 6 weeks.

i like to veg for 6 weeks and the 2 weeks stretch, so i aim for a pot size around 8-10 lt

i've tried a 20lt pot before and a longer veg, it only made it harder to control the wet/dry cycle.

roots won't search for water if the medium is always wet.

Both my grows (see below plus there's some pictures of a third floating about somewhere) were in 12l pots. First two were autos and my current grow is a photo. That will give you some idea on the sizes to expect.

Apologies if you're more experienced that you're coming across as but feel this needs mentioning. If you're hand watering with 10 12l coco pots just remember you're looking at watering 35-40l of water per fertigation at some points late veg/early flower (at LEAST once a day). Thats 35-40 litres of feed you need to prep (and pay for!) and 35-40kg of water you need to carry to the plants (about 8 full large watering cans). That's going to take way over an hour to do every day plus you'll have cleanup and pruning/defoliation to do. Not for the faint hearted.

Not trying to put you off, just preparing you for what you're about to embark on

Very best of luck with it.

Water is plant, age, growth and environment dependent. In my diary I give a weekly overview for my water usage. Starts at 0.3l in the first week rising to 4l late veg to mid flower then drops off again to 2l towards the end of the grow. Seems to be fairly consistent but I gauge it based on the runoff. If I'm not getting my 20-30% I increase it, if I'm getting 40-50% then I drop the next feed.
