Is that for checking soil pH? Seen a couple YouTube growers using them to save measuring runoff, not sure how good/accurate they are though as I’ve only ever seen one or two people with them

It also measures soil moisture. I would question it's ability to measure soil EC when the soil is dry.
I guess the meter has its applications, but I never found the need to measure those soil parameters when I grow.

Anything that measures anything in soil by using a probe that goes into the soil is giving spurious readings.

You could use it for seeing if it needs watering... or you could just pick up the pot & feel the weight

There has to be a benefit to learning how to grow with LESS technology, right?

Not saying that I'm not guilty of having multiple gadgets that I never use, just saying that learning to read plants is a long term strategy that will serve well.

I remember M_C telling me to learn to read my plants super early on and I was annoyed! The truth was, I wasn't yet at the stage of understanding to receive that good advice.

Let's for a second consider a scenario where your gadgets tell you to change your regimen while your plants are thriving.

What do you do? Keep the plant happy or cater to the numbers. Numbers that are different for every single pheno of every geno.

EC meter and pH meters proper should be all you really need in coco/hydro. I've never seen this device used in a garden that I wanted to emulate.

    Cheers

I have seen these before and I personally don't think they're for us home growers, more for commercial growers who have lines and lines of plants and they need/want to keep track of certain numbers. When they have a plant that is having an issue, they quickly spot check the plant to see if anything is off in relation to the others that may be healthy, and they can keep data logs of any fluctuations (for example).

Just my opinion, but for the price I really don't think it's worth it for us, there are so many other factors besides EC that can contribute to a plants health, EC is something we can control, especially so in coco, when you're pushing through a specific EC every day, you're making sure that is what's being held in the medium, since we are basically flushing the system daily.

Save your money, invest in a good PH meter, and with EC meters you never really need to spend too much money for something reliable, but the Bluelab truncheon is a good investment as it can last you a long time if you take care of it.
