    Default 240x120x200 Grow Tent

Hello I’m going to buy a bigger tent but unsure what fans I’ll need as I already have the full set up for a 120x120x200 tent

    5”Inline fan 220 3m /hour
    5” Extraction fan 430 3m /hour twin
    My filter 500 3m /hour
    2 6” clip on fans

I’m currently using a 600watt hps digital but gonna be using two of them in the new tent and going to do 8 big plants

Or maybe 1 hps I’m unsure as it will be a lot to keep the heat down

How much ventilation you need is directed by many things. The bigger the fan, the lower speed you need to run it on to get the same CFM. You may need to run that 5" on 100% to get it to shift enough air whereas you'd only need about 20% of a 12" fan for the same airflow. This will make it much much quieter to run the 12" over the 5" and possibly a bit cheaper too. However the tent might not have a 12" opening (never seen one that does) and cost rockets as does space requirements (bigger fan means bigger pipe). But sound aside there are other considerations.

The efficiency of the fan (not all fans are equal), the ambient temperature of the room, are oyu venting into the same room the tent is in or are you venting externally. Is your intake being fed air from outside or inside all affect how much air you need to exchange. Finally the light you choose affects the heat generation and so how much hot air the fan is going to need to contend with.

It's a lot to consider I grant you but that's what the inputs are.

All that said, best advice is if money is no object then get the biggest fan your tent/room/budget can accommodate and you'll not go wrong. Bigger is quieter, has plenty of head room if you need to turn it up and will mean if oyu do upgrade again you shouldn't need to worry about the fan. Just remember you have to think about accommodating the exhaust somewhere so that needs to factor into how big you can go.

As a side note I am a little confused why you have both an extraction fan and an inline? Commonly I've seen people have a pressure balancing inlet fans to stop tent walls from curving in and filter inbound air but usually the inline is just piped straight out of the tent to the exit. Why do you have both?

I was thinking of buying new fans but was unsure witch ones to buy and the 5” I brought in a complete set what after buying was just a load of rubbish my temperature stays at 25/6 degrees only if I keep my 600watt hps at 400 watt

    OK no worries!

My recommendation for fans is always ACInfinity. I have one, I think it's fantastic as do many growers on here and elsewhere on the net. I'm sure there are other equally good makes and some possibly better (though I'd doubt it).

For the carbon filter I'd go Mountain Air but just beware they are VERY big and VERY heavy (see my comparison https://www.thctalk.com/cannabis-for...Carbon-Filters)

Space allowing for a tent that size I'd be looking at an 8" or 10" inline for exhaust and a 6 or 8" inbound to equalise pressure and filter the inbound air. With that much air and heat if you can avoid venting the hot air into the same room that needs to be a goal. Or alternatively if you can't avoid that try and get the inlet fed from outside the room. Preferably from outside fresh air if you can for both. Just make sure you're accounting for insects on any connection that goes to the outside.

That assumes your tent actually has a 10" and an 8" port on it.

Hope that helps but feel free to ask anything else.

    MJ

Thank you so much this has helped a lot and if I ever moved to leds what would be equal to a 600watt hps x2 ?
