Milk caps! Edible in some cases.

Beautiful shots, mpsj. Fungus is fascinating.

I'd recommend "Fantastic Fungi" to anyone who hasn't seen it.

LICHEN (likely Reindeer Lichen - Cladonia) growing on the ground surface. Previously misidentified as Mycelium

I was back on the trail yesterday. What I initially thought was Mycelium is likely Reindeer Lichen. Here's another patch I found.

Another mushroom... possibly Dryad's Saddle (Polyporus squamosus)

Not sure what this yellow plant is?? Looks out of place.

    Happy trails!

Via special Permit the area I'm hiking is a National Santuary/Refuge and old-growth. You can find cool stuff if you know where to search. Thanks for looking.

"Strike while the iron's hot"...so in this case walk "when the woods are wet".

Possibly Chicken of the Woods (Laetiporus sulphureus)

    Possibly Yellow Patches (Amanita flavoconia)

I figure I have a few more weeks off the trail to find some regional fall fungi.

Are you in Alaska or Montana ? Just asking as I used to live in the above and there was protected areas that were permit inhabitants only. Beautiful country I miss that more than anything about the U.S.
