Hard to beat a fresh-air winter-hike in the mountains. My altimeter read 640 feet NGVD (195 meters) where I stood... and the peak elevation in the distant mountain is 2006 feet NGVD (611 meters). A vertical distance difference of 1,366 feet or (416 meters).

I just noticed our Pussy Willows had popped here, yesterday mpsj. I also heard the tree frogs for an hour after the sun had set. Spring?

I was enjoying the eye contact. Normally they take the food and run when they see me. This one decided that I was safe. Click image for larger version.

The trails are beginning to warm up with early spring. This common moss found a niche on a rotting stump.

    Pincushion Moss (Leucobryum glaucum)

Most tree bark portrays a vertical appearance, Yellow Birch Tree (Betula alleghaniensis) bark prefers horizontal.
