I grow in a similar sized space. I find a 250w Blue CFL for veg is perfect. I can put day old seedlings under it, and veg them for as long as I need to. With a CFL I can have the plants almost touching the bulb without them burning and the blue spectrum also keeps the stretch to a minimum. When it comes to flower, a 400w HID does not have great light penetration so keeping the plants short and stocky with tight internodes during veg helps keep them within the sweet zone during flower.
This is a cheese I’m growing currently , it’s 5 weeks old, been topped once, supercropped, still under 5 inches high.
What I mean by the blue spectrum and close proximity to the lamp keeping the internodes tight.
