I grow in a similar sized space. I find a 250w Blue CFL for veg is perfect. I can put day old seedlings under it, and veg them for as long as I need to. With a CFL I can have the plants almost touching the bulb without them burning and the blue spectrum also keeps the stretch to a minimum. When it comes to flower, a 400w HID does not have great light penetration so keeping the plants short and stocky with tight internodes during veg helps keep them within the sweet zone during flower.

This is a cheese I’m growing currently , it’s 5 weeks old, been topped once, supercropped, still under 5 inches high.

What I mean by the blue spectrum and close proximity to the lamp keeping the internodes tight.

Looks nice and tight that like,
I've got a dual spec 400w hps, ideally would like to use it all the way through but if it's going to harm it I'll change

In that case I would do around 30" on the 400W for the seedlings. If they get to stretching too much, you can adjust it down.

I think you can go all the way through with a 400 duel spec, but you will need to be extremely careful early on, too close and it will fry them, but being far above them will cause them to stretch for the light.

What George said, gradually lower it and keep checking them after you have lowered it each time.

Havnt updated this since Planted them, I flipped to flower on Dec 30th (14 days ago)
    Still only had just water
I've just took off the fan leaves off light was struggling to penetrate, I'll attach a picture of before and after

I plan on using old timer bloom in the next day or two to get the buds really coming along

Ooff! That’s some heavy defoliation 2 weeks in to 12/12 LM.

I hope you haven’t compromised bud development.

Agreed, a bit heavy handed with the removal of fan leaves.

If you pull her down a bit you should see some more growth that will help with new "solar panels" to help with bud development.

That's some major defoliation for someone who is fairly new to this...
What ever made you do that ?
