Wow! I didn't realise this! What happens with bank holidays? Is it just another working day? How do you 'celebrate' it?

When I got my first job at a fast food restaurant quite a few years ago when I got those days off they were unpaid or if they wanted to be open they would offer people double pay for the day, I don't know if that was required or not. So I guess to some people here they are just another working day, but like I said earlier it all depends on your company, some people have ot better, some have it worse. I might not be the best person to answer about how we celebrate certain days, cause I celebrate them all the same way.

North American work culture is awful. Lots of great companies.. Lots of terrible ones.

Many start with X number days of vacations plus the major National Holidays and every year with the company you gain a extra day. Its negotiable but not near what you're describing

Yep. It's all about how wealthy the resident company or manufacturer is.

On a differnt note. Many U.S. Federal and State Civil Service jobs provide generous time-off for employees. For example: Typically 10-12 paid legal holidays/yr; 3 days paid personal time/yr; 3 days paid bereavement days/yr; accurable 15 sick days/yr; and up to 5 weeks paid accurable Vacation days/yr based on years of service.

I get 4 weeks PTO every year. I can realistically only take about 2 and that's what I do. I've been here 16 years, though. I take time off without approval whenever my workload allows. As long as my numbers are good and my customers are cared for. That's the power of small business!

Plus the major Christian Holidays and US Patriotic Holidays it's quite a bit actually.

I think it just depends on the employer.
