    Default Germinating seeds paper towel

Hey, I cracked my seeds on Monday night & only a couple have germinated. I’m doing the paper towel method in a dark cupboard. I’m starting to think I’ve over wet them or they aren’t in a hot enough room. The rooms around 18 degrees. Should I must them less & up the room temp a little? Thanks

I fold them up in a wet paper towel and put them on top of my internet router for heat. Im not that bothered by darkness, i think covered by a paper towel is good enough. Some may disagree, but ive noticed a significant difference since adding heat

Without any big expense Rocco, I find that a propagator (under £10) is a good investment. I just place the tissued seeds between two side plates and moisten daily. It also brings on the germinated seeds until they go into the growtent at 5/7 days. Best wishes.

I agree with covering with one single layer of paper towel, but not sealed off on all sides; and a bit of warmth is good.

And temps, soggy-ness all matter. I find lightly squeezed dry is good, not dripping wet, and temps at least over 20 degrees C. On top of a router is an awesome idea. Or the exhaust vent of a computer.

Better off using those cotton wool pads that women use to take makeup off they hold less moisture and are less likely to drown your seeds.

That's only 36hrs there's still a chance the others will germinate, sometimes the seed cases can be harder than others...I prefer to drop them straight into jiffys, rockwool cubes or whatever medium Im using. The less they are handled the better IMO

What I found is when the seed cracks and pushes out it's root, if you have a real close look, that root has tiny hairs that grip into whatever is around it, and when I used to use paper towels years ago I found even when being gentle I could damage those tiny fine hairs that were gripping into the paper towel, it doesn't cause major issues, but I wanted to avoid even the smallest damage, so stopped using that method.

I prefer to soak seeds in water until the seed drops or for 24 hours (whichever comes first), then drop them straight into the medium or in those rootriot type cubes. I boil the rootriot cubes, but the reason for that is a different topic completely lol.

I done the router first and the temp was 22, then I decided to move them i to a dark room & set the temp to 25/26. Should they be drying out every 6/7 hours?

I appreciate all the help & will give the last methods a go next time lol thanks
