i agree with some points from his podcast about the white label seeds,

but if you grow out a Gorilla Glue seed and make your own cross from it "F2's" they are labelling that fake since it's not from the original cut/clone
i dunno if i agree with that as a point ''fake f2'' since it's from the original genetics

It's an interesting watch and like Monster I'm a little torn.

I get he wants his pound of flesh (I'd imagine getting a clone from the original strain/plant officially for your own use is eye wateringly expensive) but I'm not sure he's also being a LITTLE disingenuous in places. With all the natural variance and nuance you get in a single strain as it is would anyone actually notice the difference? It would be great if every single plant was exactly the same every time from the strain but they're not. Certainly if it's a completely non-related strain that is totally white label then that *IS* a significant problem but I'm not sure the likes of Barneys Farm or RQS are going to be doing that. Then again I might be completely and totally naive.

On a related note funnily enough I actually have one RQS Hulkberry seed sitting in my fridge. Do I know or care if it's an "official" clone of BB#3 or something RQS have created from a real plant unofficially? I absolutely don't but I'm not sure I really care either.

The truth is I don't believe anyone has the resources or experience to know, 100%, if what they're smoking is "real" (whatever that means) unless they've personally managed to source seeds directly from the original breeder. Furthermore unless you have a long term memory that's able to store the exact effects and taste of an original strain you'd never be able to compare it after the fact either (unless it's a vastly different strain of course). We grow, we smoke and we decide if we like it. I'm not sure it matters at all whether it's a "real" strain, all that matters is you like it when you smoke it. Whether that's a generic, white label seed or whether it's the most tightly controlled strain as an F1 does it matter to anyone other than the breeder?

The question that I do have from this though is what seedbanks/brands can you rely on 100% for not being shifty or shady? I always get a feeling that the likes of Barneys Farm and Mephisto are absolutely 100% reliable but maybe again I'm just being naive. Do we collectively know who to trust and if so how to get "real" seeds? I've always wanted to get 4 or 5 of the exact same strain from multiple different banks and see how they grow. I'd expect them to be all very very similar but I suspect 1 or more would be vastly different to the others. Nothing I have the space to ever do but I think it'd be an interesting experiment.
