Hi all, Just curious to why most people suggest and grow with LED over the good old HPS? A few years back when I attempted to grow no one ever used LED, but now everyone seems to go for it

Efficiency

They use less electricity and output the same amount ''some high end brands - not all''
but they generate no heat, so if your in a cooler climate you must also supply heat that you extract
i still use t5' for early veg and a 600w hid, it wasn't broken so i didn't fix it

Efficiency as someone already posted, they use less power for the same yield, produce less heat, white light(to our eyes).
I switched from HPS to LED a few years ago now and haven't gone back, the LED tech has evolved to the point where it is now more than capable of outperforming HPS of the same wattage.
Just to be clear. LEDs are not perfectly efficient. They do, in fact, generate heat. Touch one running full bore. Check out my tent temperatures in summer!!!
But much much less as they are indeed MORE efficient.
They are also much more expensive but don't typically require repair and bulb replacement as often. But when they do... oh buddy. What a pain in the butt.
Cheers
