Was a mistake to be fair. When I renovated the house I'm fastidious and pedantic like I am about growing. Everything was done strictly to building and electrical regulation, nothing skimped, top quality materials etc. The problem was the person who owned the house before me wasn't. I'd been super careful and not made any stupid mistakes until this point but I'd "assumed" that all the power points in the room were wired to the same ring. I'd already replaced 4 of the sockets and the 5th was just another socket so without testing it I'd just taken a knife to the cable only to find it was a "rogue" spur that was being fed from the other room the other side of the wall...
I learned just how valuable working to code was that day as I didn't feel a single thing but it did melt a hole in the Stanley blade. Suffice to say I check everything now, even stuff I've wired myself and KNOW it's not live twice before I touch it.
