PH meters tend to be for liquids, is it one of those ones that you put in soil?

Essentials ph pen is a good one.

They always last a few years, even when not used for a wee while,as long as you keep the top on.

TBH, send it back for a refund mate...

The only way to PH soil is via a slurry test

Or using a lab grade - liquid/soil probe. I poke a probe sized hole with the provided tool, insert probe, and give a Deionized water wash over the probe.

That will only tell you the PH of that particular spot... that's why they use a slurry test, it brings a larger area as an average

My Apera ph60 has the option to replace the liquid sensor with a soil sensor.
You can buy a spare tip instead of replacing the unit.

Personally i wouldn't buy a budget one a test kit is a far more accurate option, ph kits are probably the best all round but pain if you're taking a lot of measurements.

Had Essentials (£40), now have a Bluelab (£85).

If you’re starting out essentials is fine, but Bluelab is a step up in quality (which it should be for twice the price).
