    Default Question about timers and extension lead

    Just wondered if I can plug a timer into an extension lead or is it dangerous as I’m already paranoid about them

    If the wire is heavy enough it shouldn't be A problem.

    Cheers GEORGE it is pretty thick and is surge protected, it didn’t cost alot but isn’t a cheapo one either

    Should not be a problem. I guess your timer can handle less watt then your cord can

    How long is this cable?

    Cheers m8 it’s 2 metres is that ok it’s one that has a switch on it as well will that make a difference cheers

    I haven’t bought the timer yet m8

    You can check after you plug it in. give it A few minutes, then see if it starts to get warm. If it gets too warm, you might want to unplug it.

    I'm not an electrician but essentially you don't want to overload the timer. Since one of my timers is rated at 15 Amps I can plug a device(s) into it so long as the summation of amperage draw is less than 15 amps. I then run a 14 gauge extension cord (rated at 15 Amps) to my 15 Amp power outlet.
