    Default Re using coco

    Hey everyone,

So i'm think of re using my coco but i've never really done it before. I've watched several how to videos but I'm just wandering what people thoughts are on this?
Also do the fine root filaments cause issues in the next grow or do they break down?

Thanks for reading and any input.

    Val

Never tried only use 7.5lt, so a 50lt lasts a bit so for the 15 quid seems bit too much hassle

Products like cannazym break down dead roots and turn it into food for the plant.

It can defo be done using products like cannazym although I've never done it myself.
I can buy 10L coco blocks from Ebay which is much cheaper than cannazym so doesn't make financial sense for me.

From one Val to another Val, yes, it can be done, I do it. Whatever coco is lost from digging out the chopped plant, new coco is topped up into the pot, mix it up and bit, add in a bit of mycor, and we carry on with the next grow. I wouldn't say we have had difficulties in the root zone. My failed grows has been the experimental one in recent times.

I agree with Easy... by the time you've separated it & used cannazym (or the like), what have you really saved?

    I reuse my coco.

If using the cheap stringier coarse stuff that comes in blocks like from Poundland, it will need buffering in calmag from the off before planting out, point about cheap stringy stuff if you buffer it from off and each grow after that when reusing, it will be good for plenty of grows, you can easily tell when its starts losing its va-va-voom and become no good it starts turning clumpy and mulchy. Their is some decent blocks that come prebuffered but i forgot name now, but it usually tells you on packaging if its been buffered and buffered stuff costs a little more.

If its the fine stuff like Canna`s i only reuse it once because it can become clumpy and mulchy if over used but the coarser stuff you can get in blocks can be used more than once.Although it can be used more than once so long as its not too clumped and rinsed well to get rid of really fine stuff. Its doesn't hurt to add 20% or so perlite either when reusing the finer stuff like Canna`s if your gonna be using it more than a few times id defo add a little perlite each time.

Basically all you've got to do is break the old stuff up and remove the big root ball don't sweat about roots this and that just remove the crap that easily removable. Then just put it back in pot and run the pot full of coco under tap for a few minutes.

It then needs re-buffering with calmag or you gonna get really slow growth and ph swings in medium. To do this just fill a bucket with water add calmag 2 to 3ml a litre @ ph 5.8, add your pot of coco leave it overnight and then soak it again in a fresh batch of calmag overnight. Coco will be as good as new then.

Its your shout whether you use any zyme products like Cannazym, i never have but it wont hurt.
