Removing leaves mid flower?

Hi,

Can / should leaves be removed during mid flower? Ive heard...

Yes remove them, because the extra leaves shade the plant from light that it needs, reduce air flow, and they use up energy to grow that the plant could use for the flower.

also..

No dont remove them, because they collect light, store food and take in Co2 so leave as many on the plant as possible.

Both sound viable.

I combine all of the reasons you've given, (opinions from both sides), to come up with my own personal balance for my own environment.

So, I personally don't like to remove leaves because to me, they're the plants 'solar panels', however I also know if I keep them all, then airflow will suffer and can cause the plant and buds problems.

I also remove leaves at the bottom of the plant, and any smaller buds that I feel won't receive enough light for it to be worth the plant placing energy into, instead re-directing that energy towards the top where the buds can use it more efficiently.

I'm also maintaining the plant by removing any dead/dying leaves as I go..again it helps avoid issues and increase airflow.

Some growers, on the other hand remove a LOT of leaves, like I've seen the majority removed with just buds left, and that works for them, so you have to find what you prefer and what works for you in your environment

I found it hardly really matters either way weights tend to be generally about same with or without defoliation. I never touched a leaf on plant for like 15+years and i was a dont touch leaves advocate for that time, i now do a bit of defoliation after stretch is over about 3 weeks into bloom and again around 7 weeks into bloom if needs be. But point being i find it hardly makes a difference done or not i tend to do it mainly now cus I'm growing in a very tight space where rh can be sky high and light is very much scarce or pitch black dark under canopy if its not done. Back in day all i did was lollipop big plants when i had space and they regularly produced a 1lb per plant. Except for lollipopping bottom 3rd of plant off about 3 weeks into bloom theirs wasn`t any defoliation where all meaty stuff was grown.

I rip the whole bottom 3rd atleast bro from veg trough to 3 weeks 12\12. Save the popcorn stuff come harvest and definitely helps make the most out of my air flow . We all have our own ways of doing it though

Yes its one of those questions you get differing answers on, so I will give you my take, from experience. I will remove a few leaves during early flower, like week 2 or 3 of flower, and only about 6 or 8 leaves per plant.

The leaves I remove are the older leaves, that will die before the end of the grow, and generally use more energy, and shield the light from bud sites.

Their really is no definitive answer, sometimes you just to have to find what works best for you

I'll tuck & twist leaves out of the way of bud sites - but remove leafs that hinder airflow

I think it’ll be whatever benefits you and your space.

I always have to trim leafs off when I’m into the flowering stage, due to the limited room I have and I always struggle with high humidity during flowering (I don’t think growing in smaller pots with coco doesn’t help this when watering all the time)

Grow right now, I twined stems to the nearest corner, and looked at what leafs had a lot of colour drained from them I could chop before chopping any solid green healthy ones. On week 9, chopped a week before
