I never did understand how you could outlaw a weed that grows naturally.

That's in California, laws are much stricter in less liberal states, though I've heard of prescriptions appearing in Texas... I think the main nay-sayers are in the 'bible-belt' of America (the big, square, republican corn growing states in the American heartland) and places like Nevada where they don't seem to differentiate between weed and smack in regards prison sentences.

I understand that weed originally got on the wrong side of the law there not only because the governemnt can't tax it (I've heard this reason given for lots of countries) but also as an attempt to outlaw the hippy 'counter culture' of the sixties ("drugs are for immigrants and liberals, and ALL drugs are the same!"). taking away the laws now would be an admission of all the bullshit propaganda the US was throwing around at that time.

Check out the weed syringes, lol.

Weed also had the perception of being used mainly by Mexican and other immigrants etc 'driving them crazy' and making them violent, threatening the proud (white) American way of liife... find it interesting to look back at some of the propaganda and letters from governement doctors, surgeon generals or whatever at the time.

he CIA openly admits to helping South American drug cartels import their cocaine into the U.S., in order to illegally manipulate South American underground economies. If the CIA wants "Cartel A's" power to decrease in a country (such as Columbia) then they spy on the border patrol and coast guard and give that info to "Cartel B". This is a FACT that is publicly admitted by the CIA. Thus, unsurprisingly, the U.S.'s interest in the so-called "drug war" has more to do with influencing foreign gov'ts, particularly in South America, than anything else.

Right on Keegan. The drug war is absolutely kept going so the US can manipulate foreign governments. They know damn well that legalizing weed is the right thing to do, but it instantly lessens their sway over the cartels.
