A power circuit should be run in 2.5mm Twin & Earth cable, which would get put onto a 32A breaker, the cable going to the socket in your garage should be 2.5mm T&E.

If it was run in 1.5mm then it would be on a 16A breaker but that size cable is used for lighting not sockets.

But either way it seems that you would be fine running your gear from the sockets that you have, regarding changing the socket, I would not worry about it as both ccu's have RCD'S.

I would still get a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher(Class E) just to be on the safe side, all the money you spent on equipment a few extra quid for peace of mind is priceless.

    Thanks for your help mate.

To me it seems the ampage is actually low.

I look at my downstairs socket breaker on the main consumer unit. This is a 32amp

    I have a 400w tv running
    Htpc running
    Amp running
    700w PC running
    2 monitors running
    Sky hd box
    Gaming console
    Devices charging
    Fridge freezer
    Microwave
    Kettle

Obviously not all at once but at some point they would or could all be running and I do not have any issues.

So I would expect my groom kit to not have issues with a 16amp.

But the difference being all those in the house are ran from multiple 13amp sockets, whilst I only have. 2 gang socket in the garage for my groom.

Cool man, you should be fine.

Most sockets are rated 20A, some are 26-30A depending on brand and use but domestic are normally 20A minimum.

Give it a try with everything on, then switch on your dryer and if is well you wont blow up your house lol(I'm Joking about the house thing). Assuming that the breaker didn't pop then your good to go.

Good luck and post the results here.

Due to age of these posts, can anyone advise me on a decent yet inexpensive light timer (300w LED) and fan controller? Cheers
