    Good post man!
Yes m8, absolutely no need at all. Just be sure that the timer you get is rated high enough to handle twice the wattage of your lights plus whatever else your running through it. Also be sure it will handle an inductive load. If you follow those two rules you will be fine. TBH you will probably struggle to find one that will handle less than 3kw (3000w) and won't handle an inductive load.

    Glad it helped.

Can you find one online and post the link to what sort of timer your refering to...? Would make it alot less expensive because my 2 x controllers cost me in the region of £160 for 2....Damn rip off if you ask me.

This is a cheap one http://www.screwfix.com/prods/89388/...mmersion-Timer It will handle upto 3kw, even though the full spec isn't given (I calculated it)

Though I use trade suppliers, I strongly recommend going to an electrical wholesaler, rather than using a retailer. The wholsaler will have much better knowlege. You need to ask for an immersion heater timer, min 13amp rating. And will handle an inductive load. Dosen't matter if it's analogue or digital.

Oh and a point I missed earlier. Keep your inductive load down to a third of the max rating. IE for a 3kw timer, max inductive load would be 1kw, that equates to 500w of HPS.

    Hope that helps.

I'm glad people are finding it useful, besides, I'm getting plenty of help in the areas I need it, so seems only right that I should put something back into the forum.

    LISTEN UP GUYS

Please do not fall into the mistake of using emmersion heater timers. I used to use these years ago and had no end of problems with light failures and no i wasnt over loading them

The only truly reliable solution for our job is a proper controller/relay

Sos Mellow, not sure on your thoughts but I would not recommend them other then timers for controllers.
I do agree they are better then the normal ones and they will certainly be less dangerous but from my point of view they were very unreliable.
