Well we are nearly through the 11th and I've had to have a serious think about how tall the unknowns might get. They haven't shown any sex yet but I've decided to start LST on all of them. The main stems are still very supple. Not too much in the way of lignification yet. All the plants get a fairly good shake rattle and roll on the greenhouse shelves as the windy days constantly shake the pots. I used some thin garden wire looped over the stems and and either slipped into a cut in the pot lip or onto a cane I slotted through the pot of unknown 2. I've tied back two or three of the lower petioles as well. I'm a little confused as to how much too tie back but I figure if I can gradually keep tying as much foliage as possible down it will encourage a proportion of branching upwards. It's all a fascinating experiment just now for me. I've left the Lowryders alone as I guess they won't become too much in the way of towering monsters. I gave them all a first feed today. Our local garden centre doesn't stock anything very exotic and I'm not going to bother buying expensive specialised nutrients. I have some Westland Nutri fruit and vegetable feed which is a 5-2.5-7.5 and gave everything a very light feed. The pots are holding moisture really well and as the plants are not that thirsty just now they only had less than a litre of water each at this watering. I'll maybe feed the unknowns every second watering and the lowryders every third watering. I don't want to risk nutrient overload on them and I'll be happy with a modest yield from any of the plants. Here's the latest photos. Unknowns 1 to 3 first and then the lowryders.
Counted the nodes wrong on this one last time, its just 5 full nodes and starting it's sixth.
More progress to follow in a few more days.
