Default anyone experienced with not paying bills? lol

    ok i have a question.

i got phone with 18 month contract, and i didn't pay few last months, now some kind of recovery specialists are sending me letters with warnings for more than 6 months, and last one said that they or police officer will come to collect money. bill is something like £45 will they come just like that?
any suggestions? i have heard that if you call them and say that this person doesn't live here anymore, they stop sending these letters, is that true?

They'll probably not only turn up, but add an extortionate fee attached to the original £45 and the debt will just keep increasing every time they write to you

I'd suggest you contact them, admit the oversight on your part but explain that things are extremely tight at the moment and you would be able to pay a token amount of, for example, £5 each month to clear the debt. Bet they take you up on the offer

Not exactly getting away without paying, I know....

If you were going to bump a contract fone, why didnt you just cancel your direct debit? and keep fone with no more bills and get it unlocked to any network for a tenner or close too, If you done it @ car phone warehouse you wudnt have to get it unlocked as they already are from there.

Yeah just get in touch and plead poverty, worse thing you can do is stay quiet, just let them know the situation, and like Marm says offer a small amount each month, should be cool.

Marmalade and Blurry have spoken wise words mate. Get in touch and offer a weekly payment, else you will get a knock on the door and an increase in what you owe.

If you live in the UK, then you can contact your local CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau). They offer free advice and can contact this company on your behalf. They will most likely advise you to make a small nominal regular payment to pay off this debt (the CAB can arrange the payment for you), as non-payment will affect your credit rating, which in turn will affect your credit puchasing power in the future.

Like marmalade dreams says the origional £45 will increase, as these Debt Recovery Agencies can add interest as well as an administration fee. You should also tell the CAB about the letters that you are receiving (which are often written in a threatining and intimidation manner). Unfortunately this debt will remain with you (for ever) unless it is paid. Debt can be sold to other Debt Recovery Agencies, adding more additional administration fee's. The origional £45 will increase over time if it has not already! You may be facing a debt in to hundreds of pounds the longer you ignore it.
