Heck yeah man! I used to live out there but was more interesting in chasing tail than fin. You taking a charter or fishing from the pier/surf?
    Good times ahead!

    Cheers!

Everything about this eel conversation puts me off. Jellied eel, I sincerely hope, tastes better than it looks or reads.

Watching a video of that dish being prepared was too much for the first thing in the morning. I really hope youtube forgets my viewing history and doesn't give me any more eel related content.

    Sheesh.

    Cheers,
    B

I`m surprised with the discussion on eels. I've caught freshwater eels but never ate them. I always just throw them back. Am I missing-out on something tasty?

I catch A few small Moe Ray eels in the bay once in A while. I wouldn't want to catch A full grown one, they get up to 25' and very big around. haha They make good bate for other type fish as well.

Chop then into around inch sections, roll then in flour & fry them - beautiful!

Not as rare as you guys would think. The problem is, the average angler uses hooked bait

The real issue was that they were overfished when coming up river as elvers. In the 80's, on the tidal stretch of the river Severn, it got stupid with peope with nets almost shoulder to shoulder on the banks & boats too

I used to be part of the guys who would net them as they went on their migration back to the see but, compared to the Elver guys, we took very little

To add some context here, we would catch a few hundred in a night - but these were eels weighing at around 5kg+, the smaller ones escaped our nets - and, a 5kg Eel is easy to handle, anglers just don't have a clue

TBH I don’t want and never wanted a clue.

I draw the line (literally) at “average angler” though ;-)

Surf and pier. Gonna be on base at dam neck so kinda limited. Charter seems cool but I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money for a day of catching fish.

Have done some pike fishing without much success. Most of the big pike taken in my area are threw the ice. Record pike in my region stands at 35 lbs.
