Normal PC fans don't have the power to blow through a carbon filter - but some people get away using carbon foam and ONA blocks. I'm using a meatier PC fan (a squirrel cage type) that is able to handle the back pressure of a carbon filter.
Whilst I agree with the whole spectrum argument (it's proven fact!), I have seen loads of journals with people only using the 2700k CFL for the entire grow with great results. An added bonus is that the red spectrum CFL runs cooler than the blue spectrum.

I would highly recommend the ONA Gel for odour control. I used it recently (4 x Snow Ryders) and it totally removed the smell of my ladies. With a micro-grow like this (1 or 2 plants), it should be even more effective.

    Cheers,

I now own both a red CFL and a duel spectrum one, so I'll see which is generally better. Can't make it a side-by-side review however, as I'll likely be growing a different strain each time

Yeah I'll be getting some of that ona gel aha, will be getting a dual spectrum, are there any brands I should avoid? The fan measurements are 2 x 80mm and 1 x 120mm

Hey Gkirky, Have a little look into my PC case build, you might just get some ideas, They are difficult to build these little cases, and mine took about 6 months to build.

I measured it all and cut to size, hardest part was trying to keep it all flat and tight. Same as when I lined with cardboard, I haven't touched the two sides yet, gonna get them fans in first

I fitted my fans today, decided to go for the 120mm as the intake and the two 80mm's as the exhausts, I also finished lining of case with mccoys packs

One thing I did notice after Is that the mccoys packs are not opaque, and they let the light through,

Any ideas? The removable panel won't be such a problem as I can just take the lining off and slide something opaque behind it, but the rest of it might be a little more tricky.
Also forgot to mention that before I fit the fans I was going to cut a bit of activated carbon sheet and place it over each fan to create a CF design and just hope it worked okay but there is far too little power in these fans, the blue 80mm one is more powerful than the others but that still lacks power. I have checked the fans with the pc case shut and there is negative pressure in the case, although that doesn't really matter as I can't push the exhaust air through a carbon filter. I am going to have to bank on the ona gel and hope that it does the job, unless anyone has any other ideas or suggestions?
    Gkirky
