Default Gkirky does dwc - first grow - stealth

Hello, I have been a member of this forum since may and have been reading and researching all different ways and techniques of growing. I have decided to have my own pc stealth grow with just the one plant, I am also on a low budget :-/ I already have my pc case and managed to strip it all out yesterday

( sorry about the dirty front of pc haha, spilled my cuppa tea down it earlier and completely forgot to clean it)
I heard about mccoys multipacks being made out of Mylar and I have some anyway so i will be lining with this, light wise I will be getting a red spec 125w cfl and will be running on 12/12 from germ. Not entirely sure on which strain yet but gonna start with low odour and if it's okay I'll be more adventurous next time ha, I'm thinking maybe northern lights cos I heard that fairly low odour. It will be a soil grow, going to be John innes no. 2 as that's been recommended time and time again. I will be adding perlite, vermiculite and most probably bat guano, bone meal and maybe some worm casting but that really depends if i can afford them. Can't decide on which nutes as there are so many to choose from and everyone has there own personal preference, but leaning towards either advanced nutrients or canna. I will be germinating the seeds, then putting straight on to 12/12 light cycle, and when there big enough will be lsting them to maximise yield. I would like some help with the ventilation side of things, I have 3 fans which I took out of the pc when dismantling it, but from what I have read these fans don't have the power or cfm to cope with being part of a DIY CF. i will make the case airtight tomorrow (except from where my fans will be going.) the only thing I can think of is have one exhaust fan in the rear at the top, one more exhaust fan on the top middle, and then either one intake fan at the bottom front, or passive intake. Would really appreciate some advice here as I'm stumped lol, can't remember what size my fans are ATM but I'll update in the morning when I check. Any and all information, advice, and tips will be very much appreciated, also if i have missed anything out here please let me know, and one last thing. My parents always taught me that if you don't ask you won't get so here goes, does anyone want to mentor me? I'll update tomorrow after my morning joint haha,
    Gkirky

Firstly, ATO advised me to use a duel spectrum CFL rather than just a red one. Plants need the blue light during both their cycles and your yield will be dramatically affected if you just use a red one. A small blue light, aswell as your red one will also do - but space is at a premium in these PC cases haha

Normal PC fans don't have the power to blow through a carbon filter - but some people get away using carbon foam and ONA blocks. I'm using a meatier PC fan (a squirrel cage type) that is able to handle the back pressure of a carbon filter.

Although I'd be happy to mentor you - I don't have the experience. I've not yet completed a single grow of my own yet haha. There's a new thread here where available mentors are advertising

Update: this morning I got up to line my case with the Mylar mccoys multipack, I started by laying my pc case flat on top of the mccoys packet and with a permanent marker, marking out the size needed for the back piece.

Once I had connected the lines and had my rectangle marked out, but before cutting to size, I tried the Mylar into place to make sure it would fit (measure twice cut once haha)

After checking my markings and was happy with them, I cut along the lines and once finished I put them in my case to double check.

It fit! Great, but then i thought that if I first lined it with some cardboard then I would have a more flat and stable surface to stick the Mylar to. I want to keep the lining as flat as possible and make sure there are no creases, so that I can hopefully rule out the possibility of hotspots.

I marked the corners of my mccoys packet on to some cardboard as I figured that it would be the same size.

I connected the corners together, cut to size, and fit in the back to double check
    That it fit, it did!

Now I did the same for the top, bottom and front side of my pc, so all but the actual front and back were lined in card board.

( just realised I may confuse some people, I'm referring to the sides of my pc as the front and back, I no longer see it as a pc, only a grow room so for me the front is actually the left side panel, as this is the bit I will be removing to see my plant). I have left the sides (front and back) without any lining at the mo because I'm not sure what to do about ventilation. This is where I am upto at the mo, next I will be lining the cardboard with the mccoys packet. Fan sizes still to come, gkirky

Ah yeah that didn't even cross my mind :-( okay I'll be removing that then, any opinions on weather it's worth lining with something else as well as the mccoys packets or just go with the mccoys straight up?

Never knew that about packs of McCoy's - Will be interesting to see how this works out.

Any decision on what strain you are going for?

    Cheers,
