hi mate, no experience with hempys myself.. but have you thought about growing just in coco run to waste? a lot of people on here are using that method and getting excellent results.. completely free draining and feed with fresh nutes every day.. jobs a goodun

i dont think that perlite is required with coco.. and yes you are likely to see an improvement on the yields as long as you manage the ph and ec.. get a meter if you havent already got one.

I have ran straight perlite with AWESOME results. I even plug my hole 2" up with rubber stopper, and fill that perlite to almost the top with low EC solution like Hempy/DWC hybrid, no air pump nothing and plants love it. I only run a few of these but never and issue, my main growing medium is DWC but this is a second SUPER easy with perlite.
