Those need to be kept super cool and are not reliable , usable but not recommended . Red wigglers are the toughest most robust , they digest alot of matter and csn thrive in very warm conditions while the nighcrawlers would die of heat .

I've got 4 on the go atm, and it's great fun.

One tip though. If you purchase any worms, pick them out of their medium first. Then a quick wash before putting them in your wormery.

I had been picking out worms from my compost bin, but needed more so I purchased some tiger worms. When they arrived, I put the whole lot into two bins. Next day, fecking fungus gnats.

Oh ya, bugs and bins are no fun indoors. i did a worm(individually rinsing them, oye vey) washing the other day, as i let my bin get too moist, and acidic. and the flies and mites showed up in force. not a big loss. as my outdoor beds needed the castings. all better now, wigglys thriving on pureed fan leaves, eggshells, and coffee grinds. they go thru the slurry pretty quick. i just liquify batches, and store them in ziplocks in the freezer. i take out the block, and smack a piece off with a hammer, then drop it in the bin, dinnertime!

I use a couple handfulls of good compost to start them off, and cover the media up with shredded newspaper.

who else has some good worm inf to share?

You don't want to use earthworms for wormeries. You need composting worms. eg. Tiger worms.

i have many years of experience with wormfarms first i bought worms from the fishing shop and collected any "lost" worms from the concreted streets in the rain, worked well for me. i even grew cannabis indoors successfully exclusively in the soil ive removed from that wormfarm. And as far as i know all earthworms are eating the "dead" parts an transform them to absorbed by the plants.

If you bought worms from the fishing shop, it's more likely to be compost worms (reddish in colour) These are the type that eat compost. Earthworms - the ones you'll find if you dig up the lawn are different. These are not the best type for wormeries.
